Vision & Traction

By August 19, 2021November 2nd, 2021defining your vision, Law Practice Management

A lot of lawyers think that it’s “woo woo” to talk about stuff like “having a vision” for a law firm.

I understand that perspective because I used to believe that too. But that was before I discovered how truly successful business owners operate.

Before I read the book Traction, by Gino Wickman.

(the subtitle is “get a grip on your business,” which is what the book is mostly about).

Many lawyers have now discovered Traction and used its advice to make big changes in their practices.

Why is this book, in particular? What makes it so powerful and useful?

Well, let’s start with how actionable the book is.

It’s not just a book you read. Because it provides concrete action steps for making massive improvements.

For example…

In the paperback version on page 32, you’ll see this worksheet…

Note that the title of the worksheet contains the word “vision.”

Yes, vision is important for growing a successful business. It’s not some flimsy, wispy thing.

Vision Matters!

I recommend that you take as much time as you need to reflect on the most foundational elements of your law practice.

To make it easy and convenient for you, here are two helpful resources (in the form of downloadable PDFs):

  1. The VisionQuest Brainstorming Book
  2. Vision Goals Workbook (use this after doing the exercise in #1)

This is not trivial “woo woo” stuff.

It’s vitally important work if you truly aspire to make big changes in your practice.

Technology creates massive leverage when you use it selectively. This short Assessment will help you discover which tools you should be using to make massive improvements.
