We talked generally about systems in episode 8. This episode goes deeper into the types of systems law firms use, and how to document systems.
In law firms, there are two categories of systems: process systems and record-keeping systems.
Processes are the most valuable law firm systems because that’s how the work gets done. If you want a smooth-running firm, you have to document (i.e. “map”) those processes systematically. And you do that by asking 5 key questions.
Lawyers are pretty good at record keeping systems such as calendaring appointments and deadlines, contact records, matter-related documents etc. But you still need to pay close attention to how records information is managed.
