Your paperless practice will run smoothly if you have the right equipment and software. You need a reliable scanner, and the Fujitsu ScanSnap (iX500) model has been the best option for many years so buy that one. Do NOT use a multi-function scanner if you’re serious about building a smooth-running paperless practice.

PDF software is crucial too. You can do a lot with the free PDF software from Adobe, but you’ll need to pay for Adobe Acrobat or Nuance PowerPDF if you’re serious about becoming paperless.

Show notes
  • You need a dedicated scanner, not a multi-function device.
  • You should have a scanner on everyone’s desk to encourage them to scan in paper as soon as it’s received
  • The best scanner to get is the Fujitsu ScanSnap (~$400)
  • Do not get the NeatReceipts scanner because the software isn’t robust enough for your law firm’s needs.
  • Use robust PDF software such as Adobe Acrobat or Nuance PowerPDF to manage PDF files.

Technology creates massive leverage when you use it selectively. This short Assessment will help you discover which tools you should be using to make massive improvements.
