Transforming Law Practice: The Realization
When it comes to transforming law practice, realizing your dissatisfaction is the first step. Like many of us, we often ignore that nagging feeling of unhappiness and dissatisfaction in our careers until things get unbearable. But why wait till then? Early on in my career, I was thrilled by the practice of law. But over time, I felt trapped, like a cog in a machine, mindlessly lumbering toward mediocrity.
Winds of Change: The Turning Point
Transforming law practice requires a push, a moment of realization. For me, it was Hurricane Katrina. The entire city had to be rebooted, and so did I. I started questioning my happiness and realized that maybe it was time for something different. A drastic change in perspective can allow you to see what you want clearly.
Transforming Law Practice: The Leap
Once you realize you’re unhappy, transforming law practice becomes a journey you’re eager to embark on. You start to consider the idea of branching out on your own, of leaving the safety of the big firm. Yes, it’s terrifying. But the frustration of being stuck in a job you hate outweighs the fear.
The Moment of Decision
Transforming law practice does not happen overnight. There’s a point of decision, a moment when you let your intentions known, as I did with my partner. It’s a decision that may come as a surprise to others but feels right for you.
The Better Way to Transform Law Practice
While a natural disaster pushed me into transforming my law practice, it’s not the most recommended path. It’s better to clearly define what kind of law practice you want, and most importantly, the kind of life you want. Design a practice that supports that life, and you’ll find satisfaction in your career.
Check out the 2-minute video below and you’ll get a good sense of why this event was so satisfying for everyone involved.
We’re going to do another one soon (Probably a few months)
One of the things that we’ll do is have folks fill out a Vision Quest Brainstorming Workbook.
It’s not necessary to fill that worksheet out to be able to market your practice well.
But it helps lawyers in deeper ways.
In ways that are more important than marketing.
So, download the workbook and let your mind roam.
See what dreams and aspirations are lurking in the cobwebs of your mind.
It can only help to find out.
And, when you’re ready…
