Nanotechnology is “the ability to work at the molecular level, atom by atom, to create large structures with fundamentally new properties and functions.” According to the National Nanotechnology Initiative, nanotech research is leading to unprecedented understanding and control over the basic building blocks and properties of all natural and man-made things. Not surprisingly, government funding for nanotechnology is on a steep upward incline [Source].
I don’t know a lot about nanotechnology, certainly not anywhere near as much as Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit fame. And I’d never heard of F. Mark Modzelewski, the Executive Director of the NanoBusiness Alliance. Still, I can’t believe that Modzelewski would send the emails like the ones he has been sending to Glenn Reynolds (see post by Glenn Reynolds). I’m the first to say that you can’t judge people that you don’t know very well, but Modzelewski seems like a buffoon. His emails to Glenn Reynolds aren’t helping to ‘spread the good word’ about nanotechnology. Instead, they are the PR equivalent of self-inflicted wounds.
Mark Modzelewski appears to lack the political/social skill to tolerate intelligent commentary from people that basically support his cause. Instead of reaching out and trying to respond to Glenn Reynolds in a professional way, Modzelewski more or less calls him a zealot-quack. What I want to know is: when did Modzelewski decide to stop taking his medication?
