On Language, Pop Culture and Making Sausages

By April 14, 2006law practice

When I was younger I’d read William Safire’s On Language column in the Sunday New York Times to pick up new words, but now I have the internet.  Which is how I learned what ‘YFS’ stands for.  While we’re discussing obscure pop-culture references, who knew that Jeff Skilling had a connection to Wayne’s World

And, last, for legal brief writers out there, did you know that soon lawyers will be free to cite unpublished opinions?  Ninth Circuit judge (and former Dating Game contestant) Alex Kozinski thinks this is a bad idea, noting that many other judges agree: "When the people making the sausage tell you it’s not safe for human consumption, it seems strange indeed to have a committee in Washington tell people to go ahead and eat it anyway.”

P.S. If you're a practicing lawyer, check out this Law Practice Assessment . After answering a few questions, you'll get detailed recommendations for improving five key areas of your practice.
