California’s Mad, Mad World

Literally hundreds of famous and idiosyncratic people in California are stampeding to run in the gubernatorial election, which now resembles more scenes from movies like It’s a Mad Mad World or Rat Race than a respectable political process. How can we make sense of this phenomenon?

Answer: we can’t. But we can read a fine piece of writing by Matt Welch and if, like me, you aren’t from California allow yourself to enjoy the madness and –in the process– feel a lot better about your own State.
