Be all you can be – Become a poll commissioner

By January 24, 2006new orleans

The Orleans Parish Registrar of Voters needs an additional 500-1000 people willing to serve as election commissioners for the upcoming election. While the date is not in stone, the judge essentiallly set the stage for Qualifying March 1, 2, & 3; Primary April 22 and General Election May 20.  Election Commissioners verify identity and set the machines at polling places.

Commissioners will receive $100 per election and must be registered to vote in Orleans Parish. Their current residence is not an issue as long as they have not changed their voter registration to an out-of-parish address. In order to serve they must attend a 2 hour training and certification class and pass an open book test at the certification class.

We have 7 classes scheduled in the next few weeks.  Pre-registration is not necessary – just show up. The classes are as follows:

January 25th Cutoff Community Center (6600 Belgrade St. -Westbank) 6pm

January 28th Jewish Community Center (5342 St. Charles at Jefferson Ave.
– Uptown) 8am, 10am or 12pm

February 4th  Jewish Community Center (5342 St. Charles at Jefferson
Ave. – Uptown) 8am, 10am or 12pm
